Hot Bananas With Rum and Raisins - Great Britain
INGREDIENTS:
Serves 4
40g/1,5 oz/ 1/4 cup seedless raisins
75ml/5 tbsp dark rum
50g/2oz/4 tbsp unsalted butter
60ml/4 tbsp soft light brown sugar
4 ripe bananas, peeled and halved lengthways
1,25ml/ 1/4 tsp grated nutmeg
1,25ml/ 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
30ml/ 2 tbsp slivered almonds, toasted
chilled cream or vanilla ice cream to serve (optional)
1 Put the raisins in a bowl with the rum. Leave them to soak for about 30 minutes to plump up.
2 Melt the butter in a frying pan, add the sugar and stir until dissolved. Add the bananas and cook for a few minutes until tender.
3 Sprinkle the spices over the bananas, then pour over the rum and raisins. Carefully set alight using a long taper and stir gently to mix.
4 Scatter over the slivered almonds and serve immediately with chilled cream or vanilla ice cream.
