Cheese Rings
225g/ 8oz self raising flour
salt and pepper
pinch mustard powder
25g/ 1oz butter or margarine
50g/ 2oz Cheddar cheese, finely grated
1 egg
milk to mix
oil or fat to fry
1 Sift together the flour with the seasonings. Rub in the butter or margarine and add the grated cheese.
2 Bind with the egg and enough milk to make a soft rolling consistency.
3 Roll out until about 2cm/ 3/4inch in thickness, cut into eight or ten 5 to 7.5cm/ 2 to 3inch rings.
4 Heat the oil or fat. Fry the rings for 6 to 7 minutes until well risen, crisp and brown.
5 drain on absorbent paper.
6 Serve hot or cold
